SUI and Aptos: the new competitors in the Layer 1 arena

SUI and Aptos were created from the “ashes” of Diem – the closed Meta (Facebook) blockchain project. The two founders took the Move Language technology and built new networks. In 2025, both are active and growing.

Move Language: the technical advantage

Move is a programming language created for Smart Contracts with an emphasis on safety. Common errors that made DeFi hacks (like Reentrancy Attack) much harder to do in Move.

Aptos: the cautious approach

Aptos went live in 2022, backed by a16z, Binance Labs and more. Speed: up to 160,000 theoretical TPS. Emphasis on safety and enterprise deployment. In 2025, the TVL in DeFi on Aptos increased.

SUI: The Dynamic Approach

SUI emphasizes user experience and game development. zkLogin allows login via Google/Apple without a traditional wallet. SUI grabbed a big share in Web3 and NFT games in 2024-2025.

Tough competition

Both SUI and Aptos face Solana which leads in volume and sales. Both are trying to build a unique ecosystem that will justify their existence. Compare with Solana.
