Avalanche: Speed and DeFi – a project to follow

June 15, 2025blockchain

Avalanche (AVAX) is one of the “alternative Layer 1” networks that sought to compete with Ethereum and Solana. In 2025, it positions itself as a platform for students and institutions.

The uniqueness of Avalanche

Avalanche uses a unique consensus protocol that offers transaction finality in less than a second, enabling thousands of TPS. The architecture is divided into 3 chains: X-Chain (assets), C-Chain (smart contracts, EVM compatible), P-Chain (metadata and coordination).

Subnets: the secret weapon

Subnets are customized blockchains that run within Avalanche. Institutions and Enterprises can create their own subnet with customized rules – regulation, KYC, permissions. DFK Chain (DeFi Kingdoms) and Swimmer Network are examples.

The ecosystem

Trader Joe is the leading DEX. Benqi is a lending protocol. AVAX is often in the top 10-15 coins by market cap. However, during “crypto winter” periods, AVAX experienced sharp declines.

What next?

Avalanche 9000 (Etna Upgrade) was released in 2024 and significantly improved the costs of setting up Subnets. In 2025, financial institutions are looking at Avalanche Subnets for clearing. Compare with Solana.
