Communities use them as membership passes that unlock access, and brands attach them to physical goods as a certificate of authenticity. Increasingly, NFTs also represent identity and credentials in Web3, such as proof that a wallet completed a course or belongs to a verified group. The risks worth taking seriously

NFTs inherit every risk of the wider crypto market and add a few of their own. Prices are volatile and often illiquid, meaning a token that sold quickly in a hot market can sit unsold for months afterwards. The link between a token and its underlying file can break if the file is stored on a fragile server rather than decentralised storage. Scams are common: fake collections, copied artwork, and phishing sites that trick users into signing a malicious transaction that drains their wallet. Because approvals in Web3 can grant a contract ongoing access, a single careless signature can be costly. The defensive habits are the familiar ones. Verify the official contract address, never sign a transaction you do not understand, use a hardware wallet for anything valuable, and treat any promise of guaranteed returns as a warning sign.

Israel’s blockchain ecosystem has approached NFTs less as a collectibles gold rush and more as infrastructure for Web3 ownership.
